Who We Are

Acts10 is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ communities in unaccepting areas of the world.

Our mission

Acts10 seeks to empower LGBTQ+ individuals and communities by addressing homelessness, hunger, peer support, healthcare, empowerment, and advocacy.

Our values

Beauty in Diversity

God created humans to bear the Imago Dei. We come in different races, genders/gender identities, and sexual orientations. (Gen 1:26-28; Gal 3:1-29)

God is Love.

We will serve others in the LGBTQ+ community without regard to their religious beliefs. (1 John 4:16)

Holy Trinity

Those serving as part of the Acts10 team should acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God and God in human form, part of the Trinity. Jesus came to reconcile the world to God by paying the penalty for all of human sin. (John 1:1-17; John 14:6; Acts 1:8; 1 John 4:1-21; Genesis 12:3; Genesis 14: 18-20; Hebrews 7:1-28; Romans 12:25-32)

Our History

Acts10 started in 2019 — through God-ordained circumstances…

In 2018, Dr. Tara Wakefield, the subsequent founder of Acts10, learned of a lady who needed a kidney at her parents’ church, St. Luke’s UMC. With a physician’s heart for humanity, Dr. Tara felt called to go through the testing phase of the kidney donation process to see if she would match — and as God would have it, SHE DID MATCH! In December 2018, Dr. Tara and Mandeep were forever united through the successful donation of Dr. Tara’s kidney.

A friendship blossomed through the organ donation process between Dr. Tara and Mandeep. Sharing experiences, hopes, and dreams, Dr. Tara expressed a profound initiative to unite churches within the United States by working together, sending people on inter-church mission trips to foster understanding among races, sexual orientations, and denominations.

As luck would have it, Mandeep was an Information Technology guru and began developing a website to help get Dr. Tara’s vision off the ground— Acts10 was born.

By 2019, Acts10 began to organize and plan its first mission trip! And then, the COVID-19 pandemic enveloped the globe, and the trip was a bust. With an uncertain future, Acts10 went inactive until late 2021, when the grey clouds of the pandemic began to clear.

This unexpected downtime allowed Dr. Tara Wakefield to consider the vision of Acts10 further. During this evolutionary period, she continued to attend LifeJourney Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. There, a Facebook group chat with her friend and fellow congregant, Harold Brown, connected her to a Ugandan named Gerald.

By God’s grace, Gerald catalyzed  profound change in the Acts10 vision. Instead of fostering understanding of races within churches in the United States, Acts10 was seemingly being called to support the lives of LGBTQ+ people in unsupportive areas of the world — TO BE A GLOBAL LGBTQ+ ALLY!

In 2018, Dr. Tara had already visited Uganda on a medical trip with an organization called Watoto. While there, she realized the needs of the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda. Yet, existing organizations did not fully meet these urgent needs due to fear, persecution, and the stigma of supporting LGBTQ+ individuals. Dr. Tara wanted to help, but without the support of an organization or even a contact in Uganda, she felt helpless…

So when Dr. Tara had the encounter with Gerald, the Ugandan man from Harold’s group chat, it was as if God connected the dots — making the way for Acts10 to embark on its new mission!

In April of 2022, Dr. Tara Wakefield visited Uganda to meet with Gerald, his contacts, and friends. Dr. Tara also met with the leaders and residents of two other shelters and drop-in centers. The trip inspired and validated Dr. Tara’s vision for Acts10.

So Acts10 2.0 begins here — supporting the LGBTQ+ lives in unsupportive areas around the globe. What will God have in store for the future of Acts10 and other needs of communities around the world? God’s perfect timing can only reveal, but here’s where the journey starts . . .
